Peter - Visionary Family Ministries

Peter Rothermel

Family Care & Church Networking

Peter met his bride, Jackie, at Biola University in Southern California, and they were married in 1997. They have been blessed with two adult children, Peter VI (married to Clavel) and Breezy (married to Kousei), as well as two young grandchildren, Noelle and Sev (short for Peter VII!).

Following their wedding, they quickly stepped into their mission fields—Jackie serving as an ER nurse and Peter as a chaplain with the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles. To their surprise, they were soon called to serve just outside Yosemite, helping launch a new program for young men ages 18–25 coming through the downtown Los Angeles rescue mission. After five years of investing deeply in these young men, Peter returned to Biola to earn his master’s degree in Intercultural Studies.

Upon completing his degree, Peter accepted a call to serve Saint Michael’s Church in Charleston, South Carolina, as its first full-time Youth Minister. He joyfully embraced this role, driven by a deep desire to help students know the Jesus of the Bible. After 11 years in youth ministry, Peter was called to serve as the Coordinator for the Department of Christian Faith Formation for the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina, where he faithfully served for 18 years. In this role, he supported dozens of churches across the state, helping them make disciples and encouraging each church to lift up the Bible as the Word of God. A significant focus of his ministry was uniting church and family—across all ages and stages—in the work of discipleship.

In 2006, Peter attended a leadership workshop led by Visionary Family Ministries founder Rob Rienow, beginning a lifelong friendship. God used VFM to accelerate Peter’s ministry to his own wife and children and to equip him to share a biblical vision of family discipleship and multigenerational faithfulness with other church leaders.

One of Peter and Jackie’s greatest joys in ministry has been helping develop and grow GrandCamp, a week-long experience filled with worship, games, and meaningful activities designed to strengthen relationships between grandparents and their grandchildren.

Peter and Jackie love opening their home for small gatherings, encouraging young married couples, and walking alongside those struggling with addiction. Peter has a special heart for prodigals and their families. He is passionate about seeing believers serve together, equipping parents and grandparents to pass on the love of Jesus, and watching marriages thrive under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
