Peter Rothermel
Family Care & Church Networking
Peter met his bride Jackie at Biola University in Southern California and were married in 1997. They have been blessed with two adult children, Peter VI (married to Clavel) and Breezy (married to Kousei), and two young grandchildren; Noelle and Sev. (Sev is short Peter the 7th!)
After their wedding they quickly jumped into their mission fields, Jackie as an ER nurse and Peter as a Chaplain for the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles. To their surprise they were soon called to serve just outside Yosemite for a new program to help 18 through 25-year-old young men who were coming through the rescue mission in downtown Los Angeles. After five years of investing in these young men, Peter went back to Biola for his master’s degree in Intercultural Studies. Upon completion of his degree Peter received the call to be Saint Michael’s Church of Charleston South Carolina as their first full time Youth Minister. He was happy to accept this call as he greatly desired to help students know the Jesus of the Bible.
After 11 years in youth ministry, Peter was then called to serve as the coordinator for the Department of Christian Faith Formation for the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina. He served there for 18 years. He provided ministry support for dozens of churches around the state, helping them make disciples and encouraging every church to lift up the Bible as the word of God. A significant focus of his ministry was uniting church and family, through all ages and stages, in making disciples.
In 2006, Peter attended a leadership workshop led by VFM’s founder, Rob Rienow, and they developed a life-long friendship. The Lord used VFM to accelerate Peter’s ministry to his wife and children and share the biblical vision of family discipleship and multi-generational faithfulness with other church leaders.
One of Peter and Jackie’s greatest joys of serving together was helping develop and grow Grandcamp, a week-long experience filled with worship, games, activities for Grandparents and their grandchildren together!
Peter and Jackie love hosting small gatherings at their house, encouraging young married couples, and caring for those who are struggling with addiction.
Peter has a heart for the prodigal and their families. He loves seeing believers serve together, equipping parents and grandparents to pass the love of Jesus to future generations, and seeing marriages thrive under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
