Thoughts for husbands…
How a man relates to his wife dramatically affects the entire family, and directly affects the souls of his children. When a man loves, serves, and leads his wife, he creates security for his children. The challenge is that being a godly husband is even more difficult than being a godly father. I am totally dependent upon the Holy Spirit every day.
I have lost track of the number of parents who have brought their teen to me for counseling with the message, “Fix my kid!” After spending some time with the teen, it often becomes apparent that the struggles he or she is dealing with stem from the fact that the parents cannot stand each other! One of the greatest gifts you can give your children is a committed, growing, Christian marriage.
This is not to say that you are going to be perfect, but rather that you are committed to working on your marriage. You are focused on making baby steps toward becoming a better spouse and you are growing year by year. Amy and I have all sorts of problems, conflicts, and frustrations. Our kids see and experience them. They also see and experience us talking things through, offering and receiving forgiveness. My prayer is that the Lord will use the commitment Amy and I have to our marriage, and the way we struggle in His grace week by week, to bless and encourage our children in their faith!
